"During the summer Bjorn worked for farmers, and in the winter he attended the district school of the neighborhood. From 1861 to 1863 he attended for a portion of each year the Albion Academy, in Dane county. He taught district schools for nine terms, and was principal of a private school in Chicago in 1865, 1869, 1870 and 1871.
In 1865, as one of the firm of Holland Bros., he became interested in merchandizing at Moscow and Adamsville. He continued in that business until 1882, since which time he has been a farmer, merchant and stock dealer in the new village of Hollandale, Iowa county, named after him.
In the year 1867 he held the office of town clerk. Mr. Holland was nominated by the Republicans of Iowa county in 1898, to represent that county in the assembly, and was elected over John M. Smith, Democrat and J. P. Parmley, Prohibitionist.
