About "Black Neill" aka "Neill Dubh" McNeill
Another source for Hector McNeill of Ardelay and Elizabeth McTavish being the parents of "Black Neill," known also as Neill dhu McNeill, is the Spring 1996 edition of "Mac-Alasdair Clan" the journal of the Clan McAlister of America. This has some nice descendancy charts for the three McNeill branches involved in the 1739 Argyll Settlement in NC: Ardelay, Lossitt, and Taynish, as does the McNeill's Ferry Chronicle.
"Black Neill's" wife Grissella Campbell has a very interesting ancestry, also. According to the McNeill's Ferry Chronicle, she was the niece of Rev. Dugald Campbell, translator of the Gaelic Bible, who was also the grandfather of Elizabeth McTavish, Neill's mother. In addition, according to this source, these Campbells were directly descended from Duncan "Lord Camille", first Lord Campbell of Argyll.
