Birth and Upbringing: Brian was born in 1958. Next of Kin were traced during the writing of "The Search for Puma 164" and it was established he has a brother Graham Enslin. [1] Education: He was educated at Lord Malvern High School Occupation: Soldier – Rhodesian Army: Service No. 119928 Demise: Killed in action on 6 September 1979 while serving as a Trooper with 1 Commando, 1st Battalion, Rhodesian Light Infantry at Mapai, Mozambique (Operation Uric). He died when the Puma helicopter in which they were travelling was shot down by an RPG7 rocket. The South African Defense Force Puma, call-sign Hotel 4, was hit behind the pilot's seat, causing it to crash and burst into flames. 9 of the dead were Rhodesian Light Infantry (Joe du Plooy, Gordon Fry, Jacobus Briel, Aiden Colman, Jeremy Crow, Brian Enslin, Steven King, Colin Neasham, David Prosser), 5 from Engineers (Charlie Small, Bruce Burns, Michael Jones, LeRoy Duberly, Peter Fox) and the South African Air Force air crew of 3 (Capt Paul Vellerman, Lt Nigel Osborne and Flt Sgt Dick Retief). Burial: Brian Enslin's remains could not be returned to Rhodesia for burial. His memorial service along with those of his 8 colleagues was held on 11 September 1979 at the Rhodesian Light Infantry Barracks, Salisbury. [2]
