CECIL WILLIAM HAYDON was a son of Doctor EDGAR HAYDON of Newton Abbot and his wife EDITH (nee BEWES). He was born on 23 February 1896.
Brigadier CECIL WILLIAM HAYDON, D.S.O., M.C., was born on 23 February 1896, and joined the Middlesex Regiment in 1914, and saw active service in France and Belgium during the 1914 - 1918 War, when he was twice wounded, and was mentioned in dispatches, and he was awarded the Military Cross in 1914, Star with Clasp, two medals.
He was promoted to Captain in 1917, and was a G.S.O.3 in France in 1917, and a Brigade Major in 1918. In 1919 he served as a G.S.O.3 and Brigade Major in the Army of the Rhine. From 1920 to 1922 he was again a Brigade Major, this time in the Irish Command.
From 1931 to 1937, he was employed with the Royal West African Frontier Force. He was promoted to Major on 11 October 1937. In the 1939 - 1945 War he was promoted eventually to Brigadier, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order. He was killed in action in June 1943.
