Bruno came to the U.S. in 1925 on a student visa, headed for Temple University in Philadelphia, and he never went back to Austria. He arrived in New York on Feb. 13, 1925 on the S.S. President Roosevelt, out of Bremen, Germany (see images in MEDIA). After outstaying his visa he ended up in Chicago (1930 Census; a grocery clerk living in a rooming house, alone), then in Los Angeles (1940 census, with Anna and three children). He did, among other things, piano-teaching. He had arrived in the U.S. as Bruno Stricker; by 1934 he had changed his name to Bernard Schumann. He was naturalized in Los Angeles, CA on Feb. 13, 1948 as "Bernard Stricker Schumann [Bruno Stricker]". He and his family lived at 10415 Pinyon (Pinjon) Ave. in Tujunga Canyon, Los Angeles County, Calif.
Buried in San Luis Obispo, Calif: (FindAGrave)
Like his cousin Ernest Kanitz, Bruno had been sent to school in Vienna to earn a law degree (and did so), but preferred music, and never practiced law.
