His father was probably Andrew of Goochland County, Virginia and his mother probably Frances Scott of Albemarle Co., VA.. Bryant's children were James, Andrew, Bryant, Dillard and probably others. The Camden Gazette of 13 Oct. 1817 announced the death on Wednesday last of “Mr. Bryant Spradley, in the 80th year of his age. Mr. Spradley was born and always lived in this town or its neighborhood and during his life never took a dose of medicine or lost a drop of blood by the lancet. He was never confined a day by sickness until he was attacked by the disease that terminated his existence. The area that is now in Kershaw County was originally part of the Camden district. The county itself was formed in 1791 from portions of Fairfield, Lancaster, and Richland county. Camden, the county seat, was in Lancaster county until then.

Bryant Spradley received an Indent for Revolutionary Service of selling beeves to the Army. Samuel Mathis cashed the Indent of four guineas at Camden 3rd day of August 1783. Edward Blake and Peter Basquet, Commissioners of the Treasury, Charleston, SC, checked this Indent. B. Elmer Spradley of Houston was accepted into the Sons of the American Revolution based on the service of Bryant Spradley.

On November 6, 1786 Bryant Spradley received a grant of 640 Acres on Swift Creek as recorded in Grant Book 222, page 6. In the same book there was a grant of 500 acres to Bryant Spradley and John Martin on Dec. 16, 1786. Also on 5 Aug 1799 BRYANT SPRADLEY for $100 from GEORGE WHITE 200 acres part of 500 acres granted to BRYANT SPRADLEY 7 May 1798 Kershaw County at Howard's Branch waters of Black River.

It is thought that the Spradleys came from Yorkshire, England, and lived in Virginia in the 1600s. There is a parish in Yorkshire (Humberside), England, called Sproatley, north of the River Humber and Northeast of Kingston upon Hull. It is thought that it may be the area the Spradleys immigrated from.

There was also this. Elisabeth Spradley, daughter of William and Margaret, was christened on Feb. 26, 1715 in the Parish of St. James, Clarkenwell, Middlesex. Source: A True Register of the Christeninges, Marriages and Burrialles in the Parish of St. James, Clarkenwell, Published by The Harleian Society in London, 1884.

The earliest record of Spradleys in America seems to be an Andrew Spraglinge, a signer of the "Blissland Parish Grievances of 1677," a petition in Virginia following Bacon's Rebellion. His wife's name was Anne, and he had a son Andrew baptized on November 21, 1689, and daughter baptized November 12, 1699. There is also an Andrew Sprattlin in New Kent County mentioned in the Quit Rents of Virginia, 1704, with 654 acres. The Vestry Book of St. Paul's Perish, Hanover Country, Virginia, 1706-1786, reprinted in 1973, mentions Andrew Spradling in 1722 (p. 101) and Andrew Spraddling (p. 212). There is also a record of a bond for John Spradling in Hanover County, Virginia in 1733-1734, and record of a Henry Spratling in Northampton, Virginia, in 1732.
