About Byron John "Bill" Barker

Per his son Bob Barker's autobiography, Byron disliked both of his given names and went by "Bill" instead. When his son Bob was born, they became known as "Bill and Billy" or "Big Bill and Little Bill." Only after the father's death did the future television star son become known as Bob.
