About CDR of South Carolina Richard Richardson
"Father of the Francis Marion - the "Swamp Fox's" friend and fellow soldier, Capt William Richardson, of Marion's Raiders opened his home to be the base of Marion Raider's operations at Bloom Hill Plantation. This Commander Richardson invented the rank of Bridgadier General and was the one who gave that status to various soldiers to oversee regions. This is the Patriot whose body was dug up by Tarleton looking for whatever he felt was hidden in the grave and making Mrs Dorcas watch this sad event and Mrs Dorcas is a DAR heroine and the name sake of many Cherokee orphan (girls' name) which were cared for by another kin and minister named William Richardson who ran an orphanage during the Cherokee Wars and removed with the Cherokee upon removal from the earliest removals out of NC. Source for all of the above: Adair's book called: Expansion of South Carolina." ~~~ Regards, Riana Carver Private User
