About CPL Absalom Lyles

Census:

died at Washington Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee with the Union Army

Absalom Liles and Cynthia Liles can be found on the Dawes Rolls Index, their number is MCR3536. I have been investingating this information, as they were rejected. When speaking to Ann Campbell, granddaughter of George Calvin Hixson, she informed me that her Grandfather and Grandmother had said that Gertie was Crow Indian. If this is the case, then that would explain why they were rejected from the Dawes Rolls when they claimed to be Choctaw. When contacting the Dawes Index Information, I found that the Crow tribe was not part of the Dawes Rolls, but had their seperate claim rolls. I am not saying that Gertie was Crow, and not Choctaw. Paperwork has to be taken to the Bureau of Indian Affairs to show claim to the Liles bloodline, to retrieve the information pertaining to why they were rejected. The family tree, ancestral records, etc. will suffice. The best paperwork would be paperwork showing Dad as the child of Gertie Liles, and her lineage. Gertie is the Granddaughter of Absalom and Cynthia Collinger-Liles.

UPDATE: I also have information that I have included in the family tree that the Liles family were Mississippi Choctaw. The Mississippi Choctaw were NOT part of the Trail of Tears, but were a band of Choctaw that continued to live in Mississippi following their traditional ways. They did make it to the Indian Territory, but not of their free will.
