Biography
Stephen (William, Francis, John), was born in Boxford, Massachusetts on 5 Aug 1685.[1][2] He was the son of Will Peabody and Hannah Hale.
Stephen married Hannah Swan of Methuen on 1 February 1709 in Boxford, Massachusetts.[3]
They lived in Boxford and had nine children as follows:
Hannah, b. Feb. 1, 1709, m. Oct. 25, 1733 John Smith of Boxford
Richard, b. May 29, 1711, d. Oct. 11, 1711.
Mary, b. Dec. 29, 1713; d. June 12, 1714.
William (Capt.), b. June 29, 1715, m. 25 Mar. 1740 Rebecca Smith.
Hepzibah, b. Feb. 14, 1718; m. April 11, 1738, Ephraim Dorman.
Priscilla, b. Nov. 22, 1719; m. April 11, 1758, John Hale of Boxford; m. (2) June 16, 1774, Thomas Hammond.
Francis (Capt.), b. Feb. 12, 1721, m. Mary Brown.
Stephen, b. Oct. 1, 1724; d. previous to 1750, unm.
Richard (Capt.), b. April 13, 1731, m. Jemima Spofford.
Capt. Stephen was one of the original proprietors of Souhegan West in New Hampshire [now Amherst]. [4]
Stephen passed away in Boxford on June 7, 1759, survived by his wife Hannah who died on 17 April, 1764.[5].[6]
Stephen wrote his Will on 4 April 1750.[7] It was proved on 18 June 1759.[7] He mentions his wife Hannah, sons, Francis and Richard, and his daughters, Hannah, Hephzibah, and Priscilla.
There are two enslaved persons, Jack and Jane[7] valued and mentioned in the inventory and Will. Jack is left to the disposal of Stephen's executors, there is no more info on Jack. Jane is given to his wife for two years, there is no further info on Jane either.
His inventory is dated 23 Jun 1759.[7]
