Caleb Thomas Browning, Sr.

Caleb was one of the purchasers at the estate sale of his brother-in law Courtney Norman on 05 Nov 1771 in Culpeper C o VA.

He is found on the 1782-1787 Fauquier Co VA tax list. This may be the Caleb who is also found on the 1782-1787 Culpeper Co VA tax list.

An estate for a Caleb was administered in Fauquier Co, the inventory dated 25 Jul 1791. Appraisers Henry Clarkson, James Foley and Christopher Hitch. (copy of inventory in file). No will was found.

In a 17 Nov 1978 letter from Myron R. Ramsey of Covington, KY to Mrs. Ann Bettison of Rochester, NY, Myron states that Caleb and his son, Toliver, moved from Clark Co KY to Pendleton Co KY about 1810, where Caleb had purchased or been given 500 acres of land. He was listed as Capt. Caleb Brown' on the tax list, so may have been a Revolutionary soldier, but no service records have been found. (Caleb Browning b. 1769 Culpeper Co VA, d. after 18 Sep 1821 in Pendleton Co KY was the s/o James B. and Susanna Hickman Browning. He was 'in Clark Co KY from 1793 to 1807 and in Pendleton Co from 1808 until his death. It appears the information from Myron Ramsey was referring to this Caleb)
