About Calfinda Jane Lambert

Calfinda was known to everyone in the community as "Aunt Cal". She plowed a mule in the fields all day, and then came home to her large family and the many chores that had to be done.

Aunt Cal was quite an expert on home remedies (medicine), and everyone in the community depended on her to ease their pain. If anyone in the area was ill, she went to see them in the evening after her hard day's labor was finished. If the ill person had no one to sit with them, she would stay and sit with them all night. Early the next morning, Aunt Cal would be back to her day of labor in the fields.

It is believed that Aunt Cal was about 5'6" and weighed around 200 pounds. She could neither read nor write.
