About Canute Ferdinand Peterson (Udv til Utah fra Norge)
OBITUARY: The Manti Messenger, Saturday 18 October 1902
President Canute Peterson Dead.
President Peterson is dead was the news that was heard here Tuesday. The venerable old man had been confined to his room for many months and had waited patiently for the end to come and to be called home and receive the reward that awaited for his untireing efforts in the furtherance of the Gospel here on earth.
Brother Peterson was the first president of the Sanpete Stake of Zion, and when the Stake was divided he was made the president of the South Sanpete Stake and died holding that position.
He was one of the sturdy pioneers of this county, and has assisted in overcoming all the trials and tribulations in the settling of a new country and making the barren wastes yield in abundance.
President Petersen has filled two missions to Scandinavia, besides traveling extensively in America in the interests of the Gospel.
His children, grand children and great grand-children number over one hundred.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon in the Ephraim tabernacle. Some of the leading Church authorities will be in attendance.
This death will necessitate a reorganization of the presidency of this Stake which will likely take place at the next conference to be held in Manti.
