About Capt. Bowles Edward Armistead, (CSA)
Civil War Confederate Officer. With the war of 1861-1865 commenced, Bowles enlisted as a Corporal on July 24, 1861 into Company A, 6th Virginia Cavalry. He entered the officer ranks on April 20, 1862 with a promotion of 1st Lieutenant, and would be wounded in action three times during his service for country and state before the cessation of war in 1865. He was the brother of Lewis Armistead, the fearless Confederate brigadier general who fell on Cemetery Ridge, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 1863.

He was wounded on October 19, 1864 at the Battle of Cedar Creek, suffering a fractured right clavicle from fall of horse. This wound plagued him for a couple of months and his was in and out of hospitals in Charlottesville, Virginia for the rest of 1864.
