About Capt. Charles H. Brewster

From the Brewster forum at Ancestry dated 4 Apr 2010:

Charles Hudson Brewster's history is pretty complete in my files, but I have not found his parents. Someone named Lillian did research and posted it on ancestry that said he was the son of Joseph. I checked her information and there are lots of holes and errors. Joseph was married to Sarah but Lillian says that the mother was a woman named Catherine Van Ostrand. I find no record of anyone by that name (Ostrand) and Joseph was living in a totally different part of New York. Plus my information shows that Charles's family was long time in Suffolk. I believe could be connected to Rev. Nathaniel. Joseph m. Sarah one year before Charles would have been born. None of it makes sense and they there are no census documents listing Charles until much later. Lillian mentions that she had little information to support her findings done many years ago. I believe the father of Charles Hudson could be Samuel. Charles was 'of Mt. Sinai' and so was Samuel. In the 1830 and 1840 census records it shows a son the right age to be Charles. I have confirmed that Samuel did have one son named George Washington Brewster. There were also two daughters ... one daughter, Elizabeth married Apollo Dayton. The other was probably Mary who is listed on the deed of sale for the house of Samuel Brewster. George W. was in navigation of the seas and Charles was called "Captain" meaning he was owner or part owner of a vessel and may also have sailed.
