About Capt. Charles Henry Jonas, (CSA)
Charles Jonas served in the Arkansas 12th Infantry Regiment in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. He was captured by the Union Army on July 9, 1863 after the Battle of Port Hudson. "Following the capitulation of Port Hudson, the men were exchanged, but the officers were sent to Johnson's Island." (Wikipedia). Charles spent the rest of the War as a prisoner of war. The only respite that he got was three weeks in June 1864, when his father, Abraham Jonas, a friend of Abraham Lincoln, was dying and he was allowed to go home and visit his father. He was released in March, 1865.
