Awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in the field.

  • Capt. Douglas Wiremu McClurg, 4th Bn., N.Z. Rif. Brig.
  • He found the place in which he was ordered to assemble for an attack occupied by the enemy in some force. In spite of the darkness he rushed the position and dispersed the enemy with heavy losses, and captured several machine guns. In the advance which followed at dawn, all the officers of the company on his flank became casualties. He took command of both companies and led them to their objective in spite of the stubborn resistance of the enemy. His tireless energy and gallantry overcame all difficulties.
