About Capt. Ebenezer McIntosh

The Bostonian Society http://www.bostonhistory.org/

Posted 8/26/2015 On this day in 1765, riotous Bostonians, led by none other than Ebenezer McIntosh, ransacked Lt. Governor Thomas Hutchinson’s house. They trampled his garden, broke his windows and furniture, destroyed irreplaceable items, and drank all his wine! The rioters chose Hutchinson's house because he outwardly supported Parliament's right to tax the colonists as loyal subjects of Great Britain. He also actively tried to stop earlier protests by dispatching law enforcement. ‪#‎StampActProtest1765‬ A few surviving items from Hutchinson's house and a drawing of the now-demolished North End house are on view at the Old State House in the "From Colony to Commonwealth" exhibition.
