About Capt. Ebenezer Stevens, Sr.
Not the same as Ebenezer Stevens and not the son of Sgt. Benjamin Stevens
Captain Ebenezer Stevens was born August 1687, perhaps in Hop Grounds (now Bedford, New York), and died April 9, 1768 in New Fairfield, Connecticut. He married, first, Mehitable Peck, who was baptized October 6, 1689 in New Haven, New Haven, Connecticut and died November 10, 1767 in New Fairfield, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Benjamin Peck and Mary Sperry. He married, second, Esther (-----).
Ebenezer moved from Danbury and settled in New Fairfield about 1741 , was the first justice of the peace in the new town of New Fairfield, and had before been captain of the Danbury Militia. He was a prominent man in New Fairfield, and a large landowner.
His will was dated October 31, 1765 in New Fairfield and probated May 3, 1768 in New Fairfield. The will is recorded in Danbury Probate Records, vol. 3. p. 37.
