You see there are four Elkanah Spragues; not two. The attached report contains Family Group Sheets for each of the four. You'll find in there that it was a totally different Elkanah Sprague who is from Lebanon, NH.

Elkanah lived in Windham, Connecticut and Hartford, Vermont from 1757 to 1777. He served in the American Revolution first as a private in Captain Hodge's Co., Colonel Marsh's Regiment form 16 Aug to 4 October 1777. Later he served as Lieutenant in Captain Burt's Co., Col. Samuel Fletcher's Regiment of Militia in service on frontier at Rutland form 27 April to 28 June 1779. He was Ensign to Captain Joshua Hazen's Co., Col. Wood's 3rd Regiment. He was a Lieutenant in the same company as son, Elkanah Sprague, Jr. He served as Captain of a company of Hartford troops in service at Ft. Bethel on the White River. It is said that three of his sons served under him.

Communication from S. Headley reports that Elkanah Sprague died in Hartford, Windsor Co., VT.
