From "The History and Descendants of Robert and Mary Reynolds (1630-1931?) of Boston Mass" compiled by Marion H. Reynolds. (The Reynolds Family Association, 1931) - p.113:

Grindall's father was Lieutenant Grindall Reynolds in the Revolution, and his brothers Benjamin and Nathaniel also served. He, himself, "served in the Revolution, near the close of the War, at the early age of sixteen years." His official record reads:

"In Captain Josiah Fish's Co., Col. Samuel Fletcher's Battalion, 1781, July 1st to close of campaign, pay-roll, private, August 2nd, to Nov. 25, 114 days, discharged, L7-12-0. He had enlisted at Arlington, Vt. Also, private in Captain James Clay's Company, Col. Bradley's Regiment, assisting the High Sheriff, pay-roll dated Sept. 11, 1782, 1 day's service. His home then was Putney, VT."

Grindall served also in the War of 1812; was Captain of Militia, Vermont, for several years, and held many responsible official positions in his township.

Grindal (Grindall) Reynolds was born about 1764, the 5th of 6 children (4th son) born of Grindall Reynolds (b. 1726), who moved from Bristol, Bristol County, Rhode Island and settled in Putney, Cumberland County, the New Hampshire Grants (now Windham County, Vermont) about 1755 or 1760.

Grindal (1764-1843), at the age of 16 years, served in Captain Josiah Fish's (9th) Company, Colonel Samuel Fletcher's Vermont Infantry Regiment ordered organized and into service by the Vermont Board of War, January 9, 1781, for the 1781 campaign to continue in service until December 15, 1781 unless sooner discharged. Grindal enlisted August 2, 1781 and was discharged November 25, 1781 with 114 days service.

About 1788, Grindal and his younger brother Constant moved across the Green Mountains from Putney to the Lake Champlain Islands. Grindal married, about 1789 at South Hero, Chittenden (now Grand Isle) County, Vermont, Dorcas Landon (1774-1811) by whom he had 10 children (4 sons and 6 daughters): Permelia (Amelia) (b. 1791), Jesse (1793-1817), Sally (1795-1867), Guy B. (1797-1883), Amanda (1799-1881), Henry Hardy (1801-1871), Julia (1803-1843), Elizabeth (Betsey) (1805-1861), John (1807-1887), and William V. (1809-1877). Grindal married, 2nd, Ann Butler (1777-1861).

Grindal Reynolds served the Town of Middle Hero (now Grand Isle) as Selectman, 1802-1803.
