About Capt. Henry Briggs
Henry Briggs served as interpreter for the indians in the dispute between Virginia and North Carolina from 1705 until final settlement in 1736.
17th Century Colonial Ancestors: Briggs, Henry (1663-1739) Va. m. Elizabeth Lucas. Land owner." This lists no date of the marriage and I find no other reference to Elizabeth Lucas. Will list her as a wife of Henry for now. Southside Virginia Families: "Henry Briggs was interpreter to the Nottoway, Meherrin and Nansemond Indians from 1705 until 1726. In a Virginia-North Carolina border dispute, he testified that he had been familiar with these Indians since he was 13 years of age. He served in the Surrey County Militia in 1687 and was married somewhat late in life to Elizabeth Lucas, daughter of William and Grace Lucas. The children named in his will are: Mary (Bedinfield), Ann (Barton), Jane (Day), Hannah (Hill), Priscilla (Barker), and Elizabeth Chappell)"
