About Capt. Isaac Gale
Isaac was a Lieutenant in the French and Indian War in the Military Company of Sutton.. On March 1, 1763 he was appointed by the Gov. of Mass. as Captain of the Militia of the same company. In those days, Captain of the Militia was regarded as the most important office in town. In 1864 his sword was presented to Galesville University, Wis. by a descendant Isaac Gale of Royalston, for preservation as a family relic.
He was appointed by the governor of Massachusetts. At the time of the French and Indian wars this office was considered the most important in the town.
Biography
Isaac Gale married Judith Sawyer of Framingham and the couple was living there when their first child, Isaac Junior, was born in 1732. The following year the family moved to Sutton, residing in the part called Millbury were seven more children were born to Isaac and Judith Sawyer Gale.
He gave his sword to his son, Isaac Junior, to be passed on to descendents of the same name. In 1864, with the death of the last Isaac Gale, the sword was given to Galesville University in Wisconsin.
