Capt. James Clay who married Lydia Walker was a man of prominence in the Revolution, serving as a captain of a company in the Continental Army and being chairman of the Committee of Safety in 1776. Before the war he as appointed Vermont's representative to the NY state legislature during the dispute between NY and Vermonters over NY's refusal to recognize land grants from New Hampshire. ---From a Geneological History of Vermont:Parents
