James Henderson was born on 3 February 1618.[1] He was the son of Sir John Henderson, 4th of Fordell and Anna Halkat.[2]

He died in May 1644 at age 26, on active service.[1]

He gained the rank of Captain on 30 December 1639 in the service of the Dutch service.[1]
