Origins

Lt. Colonel of New Kent County The first of the King and Queen County Collier family was William Collier, "Citizen and Weaver of London," who came to York County, Va.,in 1670, and later settled in New Kent County, where in 1675 he appears as. lieutenant-colonel of the county militia. He is said to have been the ancestor of a numerous progeny in the counties of New Kent, King William, King and Queen and Charles City. Among his sons was Charles Collier of King and Queen, born in 1660, probably in England, and died in King and Queen in 1735. He had a son John Collier (shown by will of John Collier, Jr., probated in Hanover in 1749), who was born in 1685 and died in 1765 [?].--Dates from "Colonial Families of the Southern States."
