About Capt. John Eldridge

Captain John Eldridge was Master of the steamer Baltic, a government transport steamer, formerly of the Collins Line. In earlier years he commanded the ship Young Brander and the ship Liverpool. On the first voyage of the latter from New York to Liverpool in 1843, the passengers presented him with a silver fruit dish, which is now in the possession of his grand- daughter, Miss Isabel Shove, of Yarmouth Port.
