About Capt. John Hawkins
Capt. John Hawkins (chr 16 Mar 1604 - d 20 Jan 1678 at Slapton, Devon) was the son of Admiral Sir Richard Hawkins & his wife Judith Hele. He married Hester, daughter of Edward Richards and Jane Martin; ~12 children; none came to America.
Family
John (3) born 1600 married Hester Richards in 1632. Their first son John died at age three. Judith was born 1640, Richard was born 1641, and another son named John was born Sept. 21, 1643, William was born in 1644, followed by Robert who died in infancy [there must have been a second Robert, then, because there was one who got married but had no children], Mary, Thomas, and Nicholas.
Exact birth order of Robert, Mary, Thomas and Nicholas uncertain, as those pages seem to be missing from Slapton register.
So in sum Thomas' daughter Judith and Nicholas' daughter Dorothy were the only continuators of this line, and neither could carry the surname.
There are absolutely NO records of him having or using any middle name.
NOTE: SON JOHN DIED UNMARRIED AND WITHOUT OFFSPRING IN 1673. His sister Hester inherited his few worldly goods. He WAS NOT the same person as any John Hawkins who immigrated to America, or married, or had children.
