About Capt. John Jacobs

John and Sarah resided in the second precinct, Hingham. He was constable 1709, selectman 1742, 1743, and 1745, representative 1726-1733, and deacon of the church. In addition to his public duties, he carried on a farm of about 200 acres, which included 130 of pasturage, 50 of mowing, etx. In 1749 he kept 10 cows, 6 oxen, 2 hourses, 38 sheep; and harvested 176 bushels of corn. At that time he paid a larger tax than any other resident of the town. He left no issue.33

On 19 Feb 1710/1 when John was 31, he married Sarah Cushing (12017) , daughter of Daniel Cushing (3937) (23 Jul 1648-5 May 1716) & Elizabeth Thaxter (13744) (19 Feb 1660/1-6 Apr 1727), in Hingham, MA.33 Born ca 1690 in Hingham, MA. Sarah was baptized in Hingham, MA, on 27 Jul 1690.33
