Biography

John was baptized the 18 May 1645 in Barnstable, Barnstable, Massachusetts. [1] He is a half sibling to his older brother, John Lothrop who was baptized at Egerton, Kent, England, 22 Feb 1617/8. [2], (said by some to be the husband of Mary Heilly). John Lothrop/Lathrop, son of the Rev. John Lothrop by his 2nd wife Ann (Unknown), was born at Barnstable, 18 May, 1645.[3] He married (1) at Plymouth, 3 Jan 1671/2, Mary Cole, and (2) at Plymouth, Dec 1695, Hannah (Morton) Fuller, daughter of John Morton and widow of John Fuller. Great Migration 1634-1635, I-L [4] John and his wife Mary are both buried in the family cemetery, "Lothrop Hill" in Barnstable, MA Research Notes: Cole or Cobb

According to Cutter, the name of John Lathrop's first wife was Mary Cobb, and the same date is given. [5] The same source gives the birth date of John Lathrop as Jan 9, 1644/5, which could fit with a May 1645 baptism. Note: Her surname is Cole, (see 'Cole, Ernest Byron') and "Findagrave.com" sources below. According to Robert Charles Anderson of the Great Migration series, John Lathrop's first wife was Mary Cole. According to Amos Otis, author of Genealogical Notes of Barnstable Families, the first wife of John Lathrop was Mary Cole. Otis was published in 1890, Anderson in 2008. Cutter writes in 1910 - what evidence did he have that was not available to Otis and Anderson?
