About Capt. Martin Kellog, Scout
In 1748 12 Indian boys of Hollis School were put in his care and for 3 yrs. were in his house at Newington, Conn. He was a valuable frontier officer, remarkable for strength of body . He and his siblings and his father, were all captured by the Indians when they were children, and had to walk to Canada in the middle of winter , led by the iIndians .one brother, age 4, was killed by the Indians in the raid. They eventually returned , after the abduction by Indians at Deerfield, MA in 1704. One sister, Joanna, remained in Canada by choice, married to an Indian Chief. His brother Joseph, became an interpreter and travelled to Illinois , saw the Mississippi River and traveled back and forth to Canada. and became a valuable interpreter Of French and Indian tribes, for the government.
