Capt. Nimrod M. Hyer, USA (POW)

Nimrod Hyer enlisted as a private in the US Army on 01 Feb 1862, in the 10th WV Infantry, and the same day was elected first lieutenant. In 1863 he was commissioned captain.

He was made prisoner, in June 1863, and held prisoner for seventeen months and eleven days, and then paroled because he was near death. He was first held in Libby prison in Richmond.
