About Capt. Oliver Granger, Sr.

Captain Oliver Granger lived in the old house on Taintor's Hill built by his father, Captain John. He was a private in Captain Austin's company of Suffield minute men, who went to Boston at the Lexington alarm. In January, 1776, he was a sergeant in Captain Harmon's company in Colonel Wolcott's regiment, Connecticut State troops, at Boston, and was present at the occupation of that city by the Americans. He was ensign in 1778, and lieutenant in the Connecticut troops in 1781. He was a member of the State Legislature in 1799. 1800, 1802, 1810, 1811, 1812, 1813, and 1814. In local town matters he also took a commanding position.
