About Capt. Oswald Moreton Frewen, RN

Son of Moreton Frewen and Clara (Jerome) Frewen, an American heiress and daughter of Leonard Walter Jerome and Clarissa (Hall) Jerome.

Brother of Hugh Moreton Frewen and the artist Clare Consuelo (Frewen) Sheridan.

Husband of Lena (Spilman) Frewen.

Born into a socially and politically well-connected family, Oswald M. Frewen's first cousins included Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill and Sir Shane Leslie.

A career Royal Navy officer, during World War One Frewen was present at every major Naval engagement in the North Sea. After retiring from the Navy in 1924 as a Commander, he embarked on a career in law. With the outbreak of World War Two, however, he returned to active service in the Royal Navy and by the end of the war retired with the rank of Captain. He was a recipient of the War Medal 1939-45, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, and Victory Medal.

His autobigraphy, "Sailor's Solioquy," was posthumously published in 1961. His papers are held by the British Library.
