Biography

Phillip was born in September 1658, in Malden, Massachusetts.[1] He was the son of Phillip Atwood (abt.1616-1700) and Rachel (Bachelor) Atwood (1633-1674).

He married Sarah (Tenney) Atwood (1665-1739) July 23, 1684, in Massachusetts.[2] They had 4 daughters. The first three were born in Malden, Massachusetts, and Elizabeth was born in Bradford.

  4. Elizabeth, b. 19 May 1700

Philip died at age 64 on 13 April 1722 at Bradford, Massachusetts.[3] He is buried in the Ancient Burying Ground in Bradford, Massachusetts.[4]

Philip's probate case 993 was dated 21 May 1722.[5] He had written his will on 4 April 1722. In it he mentions:

  • Sarah, my beloved wife
  • son Head (his deceased daughter Sarah's husband James Head)
  • son Kimball and his wife (his daughter Susanna)
  • my three daughters, Susanna, Rachel & Elizabeth

Notes: Philip was a weaver, and was a resident in Worcester for a time but was driven away by Indians.
