About Capt. William Richard Burch
Captain Richard Burch, II
Tradition says Richard was born same day as George Washington (22 February 1732). This information is in his son George's pension application for Revolutionary War service.
Richard Birch was granted 240 acres in the Hico area of Caswell County, North Carolina, on 11 January 1779. A Phillip Burch was granted 300 acres in the Bush Fork area on 1 October 1779. John Crisp was also granted land in the N. Hico area in 1778.
Richard Burch owned the ship William and Mary and was a merchant mariner when he lived in King & Queen County, Virginia. George Burch assisted him on this ship. See George Burch Rev. War Pension Application.
Hyco Creek runs through the western edge of what is now Person County and is close to, if not in the area, where John Crisp lived. Earl V. Davis' parents once owned land in this area, circa 1946.
