Robert Andrews was the son of Robert Andrews of Boxford and Deborah Frye of Andover. He moved from Boxford to Brookfield and then settled in the North Parish of Shrewsbury (later Boylston). He was a Shrewsbury selectman and a Captain in "A" Company of Shrewsbury during the Revolutionary War.
