"Farrar, Samuel (also given Jr.), Lincoln. Lieutenant, Capt. William Smith's co. of Minute-men, Col. Abijah Pierce's regt., which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775; service, 24 days; also, 1st Lieutenant, Capt. John Hartwell's co., Col. Eleazer Brooks' regt.; service, 5 days; company called out March 4, 1776, and marched from Lincoln to fortify Dorchester Heights; also, Captain, 6th co., 3d Middlesex Co. regt. of Mass. militia; list of officers; commissioned March 27, 1776; also list of men who received money from the public treasury for losses sustained at the battles of Lexington and Bunker Hill; amounts allowed in Council June 13, 1776; also, return dated Lincoln. Sept. 29, 1777 made by said Farrar, Captain, to Col. Brooks, stating that 14 men in his company were in readiness for the purpose expressed in Col. Brooks' last order; also, Captain of a company in Col. Reed's regt. which was detached from Col. Eleazer Brooks' regt. to reinforce Northern army under Gen. Gates and which served between Sept. 29, 1777, and Nov. 7, 1777."
