According to the DAR Patriot index Samuel was a Captain in the revolutionary Army. He did not die in 1790 however, as indicated in Sons of the Revolution applications. Several deeds reveal that he was living in Falmouth in the 1790 decade [e.g. Cumberland County deed 30:194, dated 4 Apr 1793, in which Samuel Noyes, gentleman, sold property in Gray to his daughter Susanna, wife of Josiah Skillings. The probate notice, published by his executor son Silas in the 14 Nov 1799 Eastern Herald, indicates he was recently deceased (see Image).
