Col. Spencer Mottrom Ball, son of Spencer Ball, lived at "Coan" Northumberland county; was burgess in 1769-1771 and 1772-1774; resigned in 1773 to accept the office of sheriff. He was one of the signers of the Westmoreland Association against the Stamp Act. He married Elizabeth Waring, daughter of Col. Francis Waring, of "Goldberry", Essex county. He died in Nov or Dec 1786.

• 27 Feb 1766: Signer of the Leedstown Resolutions. Historical Atlas of Westmoreland Co. VA, pg 16. He was a Burgess from Northumberland Co. and signed the "Association at Williamsburg" June 22, 1770. in 1773 he was sheriff of Northumberland Co.
• 31 Aug 1769: Deposition of Col. Spencer Mottrom Ball, age 33 years. Recorded 18 May 1770, Lancaster Co. VA. That sometime after the marriage between Winder Kenner and the despondent's sister Mary, daughter of the late Col. Spencer Ball, regarding her dower, etc.
