Captain Thomas Benedict was born and died in Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut. [1] He was active in both defending the town and in the church. He was titled Sergeant in 1713, Ensign in 1724, Lieutenant in 1742, and Captain in 1746 and every after. [1] He was also elected a selectman seven times, he moderated the annual town meetings ten times, and represented the General Assembly in 1737, 1740, and 1744. [1] It was said that he had a booming voice that could be heard and understood from a mile away. [1]
