According to the scan of the SAR application for Pierre M West in (born 1874) on ancestry.com, Thomas Horton was Captain in 1st Orange Cty NY Militia and was captured at Ports Clinton and Montgomery in October 6th 1777 and died starved to death on a British Prison ship
