About Capt. William Leigh's father

notes

from http://frostandgilchrist.com/getperson.php?personID=I34030&tree=fro... quoting Lee, Edmund Jennings, Lee of Virginia, 1642-1892 [Reprint], Baltimore, MD: Clearfield Company, Inc., 2003:

(3) Some sources claim that the William LEIGH who came from England to VA was a son of John LEE and Joyce ROMNEY of Coton, Shropshire, England. However, the William LEE who was a son of John LEE and Joyce ROMNEY died young, without issue. See Notes (4) and (5) below.
(4) Some sources also claim that William LEIGH came from London to VA on the ship "Assurance de Lo" in 1635. The ship "Assurance de Lo" did sail from London to Virginia in 1635 and did have a passenger aboard named William LEE, aged 36 (See Note (6) below), but there is no proof that this passenger was a son of John LEE and Joyce ROMNEY.
(5) Lee, Edmund Jennings, Lee of Virginia, 1642-1892 [Reprint], Baltimore, MD: Clearfield Company, Inc., 2003, p. 30:

". . . John Lee [was] born in 1528, as appears from the Inq. P. M. in March, 1588-9, on the death of his father, Humfrey. He married Joyce Romney and died in 1605, leaving directions in his will that he should be buried at Chesham, in Buckinghamshire, if he should happen to die there. He did die there, and there he was buried, having had eight sons, of whom . . . William, the second son, died young."
