"William Avery Morgan, who was born November 24, 1754 in Groton, New London, Connecticut. He had 17 children; 13 by his first wife, Lydia Smith and 4 by his 2nd wife, Sarah Harris. [4] and died March 22, 1842 in Lebanon, New London, Connecticut. He was the son of William and Temperance (Avery) Morgan.

He married 1st Lydia Smith May 4, 1776 in Groton, New London, Connecticut and married 2nd Sarah Harris June 10, 1804. He had the following children by his 1st marriage: William, Avery, Jasper, Nancy and Phebe. He had one son by his 2nd marriage: Griswold Edwin.He was a Sergeant in the Revolutionary War and served under Captains Isaac Gallup and Abel Spicer and Colonel Samuel H. Parsons in the 10th Regt. CL. in Connecticut.

His son, Jasper, m. Catharine (Copp) Avery, widow of Jasper Avery (No. 751). Their son, Edwin D. Morgan, b. Feb. 8, 1811, at Washington, Mass., became governor of New York, major-general of volunteers, and United States senator from New York. William Avery Morgan was serg't in the war of the Revolution {Conn. Men in the Rev'n, pp. 656, 661). His second wife was Sarah Harris. He d. March 22, 1842, at Lebanon, Conn. [2,3]
