William Satterwhite, Sr., Rev. War, (His name is in a book, Virginia’s Colonial Soldiers by Lloyd DeWitt Bockstruck, on a Halifax County court date, 17 Aug 1758, he was sworn into service as a captain in the colonial army under Colonel Abraham Maury) b. 1737-1740, VA d. 1805 GA. Found in a Lester Family document: 19 July 1762 in Halifax Co. VA., John Plickenstalver borrowed: Two pounds nine shillings and one-half pence current money from William Satterwhite and Robert Hastie. The note was assigned to John Blevins. (There are several marriages between the Blevins and Satterwhite family members) Blevins later settled in Montgomery Co. Found in June 1764, Halifax Co. VA. records: Ambrose Haley brought suit against Samuel Satterwhite in debt, son of ? In 1758 William was listed as a colonial soldier under Colonel Abraham Maury. In 1760, William Satterwhite of Halifax County, VA, sold 200 acres near Wallace Creek to John Cruse (Crews) of Lunenburg Co. VA. In 1761 William Satterwhite sold 310 acres to John Crisp. Waters Dunn gave permission for his underage Daughter Milly to marry William Satterwhite 4 Feb 1764. Found documentation of Waters Dunn in Columbia Co. GA., father of William’s wife, Millicent Dunn b. 1745 VA d. 1820 GA. William Satterwhite and the Dunn family evidently went to GA. about 1773. In 1784 William Satterwhite was awarded Revolutionary War land bounty in GA. His name appears as a soldier of the line in a book: The Story of Georgia and the Georgia People, 1732 to 1860, by George Gilman Smith. In 1805 William Dunn was appointed guardian for Mills Satterwhite (obviously is Milly, had to have a guardian because of old oppressive laws concerning women and property).
