Biography:In 1752,
Thomas P. Satterwhite b. 28 Oct 1711 is recorded on the tithable list of Mr. Field Jefferson, Peter Jefferson's brother. Peter was Thomas Jefferson’s father; therefore, assuming that tithable meant supporting a church our ancestor may have been a member of the same church as the future President Thomas Jefferson, if it is taxes, then Field Jefferson was a tax collector.
Field Jefferson was married to Mary Hunt and there is a Satterwhite - Hunt family relationship.
18 July 1748 - Thomas Satterwhite bought 50 acres from Susannah Clemons of Cumberland Parish, Lunenburg County, VA; this land was left to her in her father, John Clemon's will in 1740; there were several transactions between the Clemons, Wilkins and Satterwhite families in this time frame. Changes to the Lunenburg, Mechlenburg and Brunswick County lines cause research difficulties.
20 July 1753 – LAND PATENT: Thomas Satterwhite, for 153 acres in Brunswick County on both sides of Butchers Creek, being the same acreage patented to Josias Baker [Virginia Patents 23:964, 1 August 1745] where Baker failed to pay quitrents and make cultivation and improvements, so that Satterwhite sued and obtained grant. (Virginia Patents 32:208).
LAND SALE: Deed Book 4, Page 8, Thomas Satterwhite and wife Hannah to John Puryear of Warwick County, cons. £90. 153 acres. Thomas Satterwhite of Lunenburg County to John Satterwhite of same county. cons. £440. tract of land on Roanoke River in Lunenburg County, bounded by Roanoke River on south, Peter Puryear on west, Little Creek on north, and Edward Lewis and Zachariah Baker on east. Witnesses: Robert Munford, John Lynch, Bartlett Satterwhite. /s/ Thomas Satterwhite. Dated 16 Dec 1764, Recorded 13 May 1765.
