Zadock Everest arrived in Addison in the summer of 1765 as the son of Benjamin Everest b 1718 and Hester Dudley (1723-1803) . He built a log cabin it was the first public house in the county. Once the war started he took his family to Whitehall, and from there he went to Pawlet, Rutland county, Vermont. In this locatation he was elected representative in March, 1784, and also during that year he returned to Addison, and represented the town of Panton in 1785 and Addison in 1788, 1789 and 1795; he also held the town offices through a series of years and was a prominent man.

His home was used for a time as the county court-house, and after wards as a dwelling and a jail. In the fall of the same year; being AD 1765 he moved to Addison, Vermont. Where he lived until Arnold's Defeat on Lake Champlain in AD 1776. At which time he was driven from his home by the enemy in May AD 1785 after the close of the revolutionary war, he moved back to Addison where he lived until his death. He died April 30th AD 1825 in the 82nd year of his age, leaving a widow and 12 children to mourn his death. He was a beloved husband and affectionate Father, and an ornament to the Church.
