About Capt Benjamin Goodridge, Sr
BENJAMIN GOODRIDGE was born in Newbury, Mass., February 3, 1701, and removed to Lunenberg in 1724. He died, in Lunenburg, April 19, 1775. He held many positions of trust and responsibility in county and state. At different times he was constable, town clerk, justice of the peace and selectman and also performed many other public duties. He was one of the leaders in the formation of Worcester County, incorporated December 16,1734, and represented his county several times in the legislature. He also commanded a company in the French and Indian war. The historian of Fitchburg says that Captain Phiiip, Captain Benjamin and Simeon Goodridge were among the most prominent men in the state for a century.||He married in Lunenburg, April 8, 1730, the Reverend John Prentice of Lunenburg officiating, Sarah Phelps, born in Lancaster, Mass, December 18, 1705, daughter of Edward and Ruth (Andrews) Phelps.. She died June 19, 1776.

On 23-Nov-1669, in Newberry (Essex County) MA., Joseph and Martha Goodridge had a son, Philip (1669-1728). On 16-Apr-1700, Philip married Mehitable Woodman. They had 12 children, all born in Newbury: BENJAMIN (b.3-Feb-1701); John (b.6-Aug-1702); Mehetabel (b.2-Aug-1704); Hannah (b.25-Apr-1706); Joshua (b.7-Feb-1707); Sarah (b.17-Jan-1709); Dorothy (b.4-Mar-1712); Philip (b.6-July-1714); David (b.24-Nov-1716); Joseph (b.1-Sep-1719); Daniel (b.7-Feb-1721); Rebecca, (b.17-Apr-1723). The family moved to Lunenburg, which eventually became part of the town of Fitchburg, MA. BENJAMIN GOODRIDGE was a military company captain, and received a commission “for the peace” from MA Governor Bernard. He married Sarah Phelps (1705-1776), and their son, DANIEL GOODRIDGE (1738-1821, DAR American Revolution PATRIOT A045640) was a sergeant in Captain Abel Wilder's MINUTEMEN Company, under Colonel Ephraim Doolittle. Daniel married Hannah Low, and their daughter, Hannah Goodridge (1781-1861) married Ebenezer Fish (1782-1863).
