About Captain Charles Welman Collins

Charles Welman Collins was the son of Major Joseph Collins. He was born in October 1872, and educated at Rossall. He was a good cricketer and football player, as well as an excellent hockey player. After Rossall he attended Cambridge University. In June 1894, he entered the Cheshire Regiment. He was promoted to Captain in December 1900. He served with Colonel Benson's column, from its formation to the time of his death, as signaling officer. He was unmarried.
