About Captain Ebenezer Pitts

CAPTAIN EBENEZER PITTS / 1732 - 1814 (A.K.A. "EBENEZER PITTS, JR.")

The fourth of nine children born to "Old Ebenezer" Pitts, "The Clockmaker of Taunton" (1694 - 1777) and Sarah (Hanover) Pitts (Circa 1706 - 1765). Ebenezer Pitts was on November 27, 1732 in Taunton (Bristol County), Massachusetts.

Ebenezer Pitts married Lydia Cudworth (1743 - 1830) on February 20, 1762, presumably in Taunton, Massachusetts. Ebenezer and Lydia (Cudworth) Pitts were parents to nine children -- 1.)

It is unclear when Ebenezer Pitts acquired the title / honorific of "Captain". The extended Pitts family of Bristol and Hampshire Counties were staunch patriots during the American Revolution and multiple 'Ebenezer Pitts' from Taunton and Dighton are referenced in "Massachusetts Soldiers & Sailors of the Revolution" -- sometimes with two serving in the same company simultaneously!! Ebenezer Pitts would have been forty - two years of age at the commencement of the American Revolution in 1775 and, as a respected member of the Taunton community and long time member of the Taunton militia, of an age and status to be elected a captain. Further research is indicated.

Ebenezer Pitts passed away, aged 81, on April 14, 1814 in either Worcester of Bristol County, Massachusetts. 'Capt. 'Ebenezar' Pitts' is interred at Dighton Town Cemetery in Dighton (Bristol County), Massachusetts.
